Prescriptions



We’re happy to provide written prescriptions to allow you to purchase medicines for your horse from an alternative pharmacy.


You may obtain prescription only veterinary medicines (POM-Vs) from us, or ask for a written prescription and obtain these medicines from an alternative pharmacy. Your vet may prescribe POM-Vs only for animals under their care. Where immediate treatment is necessary, we’ll usually supply the medicines for immediate use. We will discuss this with you prior to treatment. You will be informed, on request, of the price of any medicine that may be dispensed for your animal. Our general policy is to re-assess an animal requiring repeat prescriptions every 12 months, but this may vary with individual circumstances. This is to ensure the individual’s wellbeing, ensure the medicine is still appropriate, and to fulfil the requirements of our regulator, the RCVS.


We charge £20.50 for issuing a written prescription. 

We usually require a visit and consultation every 12 months, fees for this may vary.

By asking the vet that sees your horse


We ask you allow 2 working days for a prescription to be arranged. The vet may need to review your horse’s clinical records to respond the request.
